Most fertility clinics will offer you a pregnancy test within two weeks after your treatment but if you want to do one for yourself, home pregnancy test kits will also give you a pretty true indication at a couple of weeks. It is important to bear in mind that if the test is conducted too soon after the treatment, the test could show a false positive.

There are however, other indications of pregnancy that you will see, for example: sudden mood swings, sensitive breasts and the need to use the toilet more often, sickness, missing your menstrual cycle, tiredness and greater sense of smell and taste.

Occasionally clinics will stay in contact during the early weeks of pregnancy and perform a few ultrasound scans to be certain your baby is growing normally. It is not uncommon however, to find fertility clinics that do not supply continuing assistance so alternate arrangements during pregnancy will have to be made.

Even providing your fertility treatment is successful, don’t be concerned if you are not as joyful as you expected to be as it can take time to adjust. These mixed feelings are natural for most women when they learn they are going to have a baby, and it doesn’t matter if they became pregnant by normal means or through fertility treatment.

It may not seem that way but normally there is little physical difference from an individual who has become pregnant normally to another who has received fertility treatment, except they may find it harder emotionally. Some expectant mothers will find it necessary to have additional scans because of their particular situation. A number of reasons exist including a past miscarriage (or stillbirths), if expecting twins, triplets (or more) and of course, your general health. If the woman is older, this can also be a deciding factor because the older you are the more likely your chance of complications will be.

Currently there are in excess of a million infants around the world that have been born by using fertility treatment such as In Vitro Fertilization for instance and there is no reason why they should not be healthy and strong. Inspite of the successes this does not mean ther will never be any problems because every medical treatment and every pregnancy can carry some risk, even those conceived by normal means, but thankfully almost all of the problems are small. Women everywhere should try to revel in their preganancy as much as possible and loosen up even though it might be easier said than done.

Regrettably the number of stillbirths that occur after the use of In Vitro Fertilization is above those for normal conception. The two causes for this are well documented: the first being that the majority of women that have fertility treatment have a pregnancy test early into the pregnancy. Whereas a woman who has become pregnant by the natural route could believe she has experienced a late period but has in fact created an embryo that failed to implant. There is also an increased chance of miscarrying as a woman ages and women who receive fertility treatment are usually older on average than those who become pregnant naturally. If you are worried about anything related to this, you should speak to a doctor from your fertility clinic.
